Strong Winds and Possible Snow to Impact Saline County Today Through Wednesday Morning

According to the National Weather Service, Saline County will experience very strong winds beginning this afternoon and continuing through Wednesday morning. A High Wind Warning is in effect from noon today through 9 AM Wednesday, with sustained northwest winds of 35-40 mph and gusts reaching 60-65 mph. Locally higher gusts are possible.

Additionally, while snowfall is expected to primarily impact eastern Kansas, brief periods of snow and reduced visibility may occur in the region between 8 PM and 3 AM.

Hazards and Impacts:

  1. High Winds: Strong gusts may cause difficult travel conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles. 
  2. Lightweight objects may be blown around, and isolated power outages are possible.
  3. Possible Snow: Snow, combined with strong winds, may lead to reduced visibility and hazardous driving conditions overnight.

Timing of Strong Winds:

  • Noon – 3 PM: Winds arrive in central Kansas.
  • 3 PM – 6 PM: Winds strengthen, spreading southeast.
  • After 6 PM: Strongest winds continue overnight.
